Every other record on this site is about a person, and a person leaves. The seat does not: it is the thing a resident actually asks about, and it is still there after the member who held it has gone. These pages are the seat’s side of that — what the boundary file says about it, which of our rows name it, and what the tier is empowered to do, which is a property of the seat rather than of its holder.

How well our records meet these seats

Counted on this request, not typed in. Of 543 seats in this layer, 489 match at least one row in our table of the right house whose stored state agrees with the file, 6 match more than one, 29 match only a row that spells the state differently, and 25 match nothing at all. In the other direction, our table holds 551 rows for this house, and 26 of them name a seat this file does not contain under any spelling.

This is the join the file itself tells us not to make. Its own defect list says: "Join on pc_id, or on st_code + pc_no. Never on pc_name: roughly 22 seats differ in spelling from other Indian sources." Our rows carry no constituency id of any kind — no pc_id, no seat number, nothing that points at a boundary feature — so the seat name and the state as text is the only join available. The figures above are what it costs. A matched row is not evidence that anybody is sitting, either: nobody on this site has been verified as sitting.
