1. Terms of Use

interns.city ("Platform", "we", "us") is an open-source civic issue tracker that enables citizens to report, track, and resolve civic issues in Indian cities. The RWA module (rwa.interns.city) provides housing society management tools. By creating an account or using the Platform, you ("User", "you") agree to these Terms.

1.1 Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age. By using the Platform, you represent that you meet this requirement.

1.2 Account Responsibilities

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activities under your account. You agree to provide accurate and current information during registration.

1.3 Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent issue reports
  • Impersonate another person or entity
  • Upload content that is defamatory, obscene, or violates any law
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Platform
  • Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose

1.4 Content Ownership

You retain ownership of content you submit (photos, descriptions, comments). By submitting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, display, and share it for the purpose of operating the Platform and facilitating civic issue resolution.

1.5 Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct that is harmful to the Platform or other users.

2. Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy is drafted in compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) of India. We are committed to protecting your personal data and processing it lawfully, fairly, and transparently.

2.1 Data Fiduciary

interns.city acts as a Data Fiduciary under the DPDP Act. For any data-related queries, contact us at admin@interns.city.

2.3 Purpose Limitation

We process your personal data only for the specific purposes stated above. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties for marketing purposes.

2.4 Data Sharing

Your data may be shared with:

  • Government authorities — Issue reports (including location and photos) are forwarded to relevant municipal/government bodies for resolution. This is the core purpose of the Platform.
  • Society administrators — In the RWA module, your name, phone, unit number, and issue reports are visible to your society's management and staff.
  • Service providers — We use Supabase (database/auth), Vercel (hosting), and AWS SES (email) to operate the Platform. These providers process data on our behalf under appropriate safeguards.

2.5 Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on servers operated by Supabase (cloud infrastructure). We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS), access controls, and secure authentication. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

2.6 Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. Issue reports and associated data are retained to maintain civic records and historical tracking. You may request deletion of your account and personal data at any time.

2.7 Your Rights under DPDP Act

As a Data Principal, you have the right to:

  • Access — Request a summary of your personal data and processing activities
  • Correction — Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data
  • Erasure — Request deletion of your personal data (subject to legal obligations)
  • Grievance redressal — Raise concerns about data processing
  • Withdraw consent — Withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your account or contacting us
  • Nominate — Nominate another person to exercise your rights in case of death or incapacity

2.8 Consent

By creating an account, you provide your free, specific, informed, unconditional, and unambiguous consent to the collection and processing of your personal data as described in this Privacy Policy, in accordance with Section 6 of the DPDP Act, 2023.

2.9 Children's Data

The Platform is not intended for use by individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child, we will take steps to delete it promptly.

2.10 Cross-Border Data Transfer

Your data may be processed in jurisdictions outside India (e.g., cloud infrastructure providers). Such transfers are made in compliance with applicable provisions of the DPDP Act and with appropriate safeguards in place.

3. Indemnification & Limitation of Liability

3.1 Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless interns.city, its operators, contributors, and affiliates from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including legal fees) arising out of or related to:

  • Your use of the Platform or violation of these Terms
  • Content you submit, including issue reports, photos, and comments
  • Any false, misleading, or defamatory content posted by you
  • Your violation of any applicable law or third-party rights

3.2 Disclaimer of Warranties

The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that:

  • The Platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
  • Issue reports will result in resolution by government authorities
  • AI-generated categorisations or analyses will be accurate
  • The Platform will meet your specific requirements

3.3 Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, interns.city and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, revenue, or reputation, arising from your use of or inability to use the Platform. Our total liability shall not exceed INR 1,000 (one thousand rupees).

3.4 No Government Affiliation

interns.city is an independent platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any government body, municipality, or public authority. Forwarding of issue reports to government authorities is done on a best-effort basis and does not guarantee any action or response.

4. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India. Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Platform shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in New Delhi, India.

5. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a notice on the Platform. Continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
